The office tower on Dammtorwall has been a fixture of the Hamburg skyline for over 40 years. As one of the city’s most prominent landmarks, it has enjoyed protected building status since the year 2000. The relocation of Unilever to the HafenCity district on the River Elbe has now provided an opportunity for a spectacular new beginning. Behind the listed façade, one of Hamburg’s most ambitious refurbishments is taking place, featuring a sustainable climate and energy concept every bit as groundbreaking as the timeless architecture. 

To maximise one of Hamburg’s prime locations and open up the site to the public, a new building is being constructed next to the high-rise block containing offices, apartments and a hotel. Together, they make up EMPORIO, the new prime address in downtown Hamburg.
